NASCAR: What's Next for Kyle Busch?

Rowdy

Fallout continues surrounding Kyle Busch, a week after NASCAR parked him for intentionally wrecking Camping World Truck Series points contender Ron Hornaday last weekend at the Texas Motor Speedway.

Busch was parked by NASCAR for the rest of the WinStar World Casino 350k last Friday after the incident with Hornaday, and was subsequently parked for the Nationwide and Sprint Cup Series events that same weekend. He issued an apology for his actions on Saturday.

On Sunday, M&Ms, who sponsors Busch's No. 18 Sprint Cup Series Toyota, also issued this statement via their Facebook page: "The recent actions by Kyle Busch are not consistent with the values of M&M'S and we're very disappointed. Like you, we hold those who represent our brand to a higher standard and we have expressed our concerns directly to Joe Gibbs Racing."

NASCAR also announced on Monday that Busch had been fined $50,000 and placed on probation for the rest of the year.

In their statement, NASCAR also said "If during the remaining NASCAR events in 2011 there is another action by the competitor deemed by NASCAR officials as detrimental to stock car racing or to NASCAR, or is disruptive to the orderly conduct of an event, the competitor will be suspended in definitely."

Now, many are questioning if Busch will compete in the final two races of the Sprint Cup season, and what potential fallout there will be from his sponsors.

Teammate Denny Hamlin will replace him in the No. 18 Z-Line Designs Toyota in the Nationwide Series finale at Homstead-Miami Speedway, at the urging of the sponsor. There was also a report that Aric Almirola had been contacted by JGR to drive the No. 18 Sprint Cup Series car in replacement of Busch. Almirola confirmed that the team had contacted him on Wednesday, and that he told them "I'm here if they need me."

However, it was confirmed late Wednesday that, with Interstate Batteries instead of M&M's on the car this weekend, Busch will pilot his No. 18 Toyota this weekend in Phoenix.

It's been a troubling year for the 26-year-old Busch, who has placed on probation for four weeks and fined $25,000 in May after he spun Kevin Harvick's No. 29 Budweiser Chevy on pit road at Darlington. Harvick received the same penalty.

The following month, Busch was allegedly put into a headlock and hit several times by team owner Richard Childress after a Camping World Truck Series race at the Kansas Speedway. Childress was upset about contact Busch made with Joey Coulter, who drives the Childress owned No. 22 Chevrolet, after the race. Childress was fined $150,000 and placed on probation for the remainder of the year, and Busch was not penalized.

In August, Busch was fined $1,000 and had his driver's license suspended for 45 days for driving 128 mph in a 45 mph zone.

'Rowdy' Busch is one of NASCAR's most colorful characters, having been involved in incidents with the likes of Harvick, Hornaday, Dale Earnhardt, Jr. and even his brother Kurt.

There's no question that Busch is one of the most talented drivers in NASCAR today, with 104 career NASCAR wins, with 18 of those wins coming this season across the top three series. Busch also surpassed 10,000 laps led in Nationwide Series competition this year in Bristol, and passed Sam Ard for most Nationwide wins in a single season last year.

This latest incident has cost Busch money, points, and potentially sponsorship and respect from his fellow competitors. It certainly hasn't won him any points with the NASCAR fans. Busch's immaturity continues to cost him, and is part of the reason he's without a Sprint Cup title. Only time will tell if things will change.
